And talk about your happy hounds!
Amazingly simple even if you don't cook for yourself.

Way too many times, I find myself "sharing" this or "liking" that and too busy in cyber world to get anything done in my "real" life. I mean really, c'mon, let's face it. We spend too much time talking and not enough "doing". (Wait...is that a commercial?)
Then, every once in a while in this jungle called social media, amongst the politics and cartoons and cute kid, goat, chicken,et. al. pics, comes along a really good idea. And you say "enough". I AM going to try that.

And I did. Just like that. Went to the store and bought these terribly hard to find ingredients: 1 lb. ground turkey, bag of rice (wow that's mysterious), carrots, green beans, black beans, chicken broth. DONE

Take those hard to find ingredients home and do this:
Lightly brown ground turkey in stock pot.
Add 2 cups water, 2 cups chicken broth, 1 small bag of rice
Bring to a boil
Reduce heat to medium low, cover and cook 15 minutes
Add 1 cup chopped carrots, 1 can green beans (rinse salt off!!), 1 can black beans
Cook 10 more minutes on medium-low
Cool
Stand back! Whoa...down FIDO.

I put this over 3 medium sized dogs' food for about 3 days giving each a good portion twice a day. I'm not at the point of discontinuing kibble, but I'm closer. Next time I'd like to incorporate some calf liver or other high protein doggie delight, but all 3 dogs gave this simple recipe 2 paws up. And guess what? Unlike us, they don't mind eating the same thing 3 days in a row *lol*
And I know some of you are asking "why in the hell would you cook for your dogs?"

Does the black beans make the dogs "gassy"?

Haha-- not that I noticed, but I always rinse the "bubbles" off canned beans whether for us or the dogs.

thanks so much for the recipe! I am always looking for new ways to keep my Frenchie healthy and this seems so easy, I think I'll give it a try!

Kelley Creek Farms is a small (micro really) hobby farm located in Central Alabama 30 minutes south of Birmingham. We raise heritage and rare waterfowl and poultry along with a myriad of other creatures that give the farm its life. In addition to the birds, we raise heirloom tomatoes and vegetables.

Each day is different and brings a new set of adventures. Some make you laugh and some make you cry. Some are just plain frustrating. But we persevere knowing that tomorrow's set of problems will be completely different than today. Still figuring all this out ....one day at a time and striving for a more sustainable way of life.
